About the course.
This course aims to help managers and staff with at least two years experience within residential, housing support and floating support services develop a strategy for working with clients to produce effective Support plans. It looks in detail at the exspectations laid on supported housing providers by Supporting People
This focus course is pitched at an advanced level and is aimed to more experienced staff. Participants are asked to bring existing support planning documentation in use in their organisation. The course is run in conjunction with another more basic support planning course, participants are expected to have attended this course or at least be aware of the material covered by it.
Course contents.
- The philosophy of Support Planning.
- The current agenda within the supported housing sector
- User involvement in Support Planning, using learning disability as a case study.
- The requirements of Supporting People
- Evaluating existing Support Plans
- Possible future developments within support planning
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course participants will:
- Have an understanding of the philosophy of Support planning.
- Be aware of the current agenda within the supported hosing sector. points of view.
- Have considered the importance of user involvement in Support Planning.
- Have critically examined the requirements of Supporting People.
- Have evaluated the existing support plans within their organisation.

Description
Guy Smith has over 15 years experience in the Supported Housing sector. He has worked in hostels, group homes and day centres as well as providing support in individuals homes. His specialism is mental health but he has wide experience across many client groups. Guy has also worked for over 5 years in a busy inner city Community Mental Health Team.
