About the Course

This course is for residential workers, supported housing officers, day centre and resettlement workers, volunteers and managers.

 

Course Content

  • Understanding the principles behind personal boundaries
  • Boundaries in context; definitions, principles of support work, roles and power relationships
  • How can you help clients when boundaries are stretched or broken? 
  • Examples of what can happen when boundaries get blurred
  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • Understanding what protects workers
  • Boundaries with colleagues and other professionals
  • What is needed for effective team working/working professionally with others

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course participants will have:

  • The principles underpinning personal boundaries
  • The different elements of professional boundaries
  • Definitions of boundary violations and boundary crossing
  • The boundaries of their professional relationships with service users
  • The risks that ensue if professional boundaries are not maintained
  • Policies and procedures that underpin their relationships with service users
  • What to do if they are concerned that they may be in a situation where professional practice/boundaries may be compromised
    • Professional boundaries with colleagues and other professionals

Description

Jo has many years experience of working with vulnerable people. She has worked for the past 22 years, in social work, community work and the supported housing arena. Jo has worked for several national organisations, as well as small and local voluntary agencies and Local Authorities. Her experience covers a variety of roles, including management and development and service provision along with experience of a broad range of client groups, including young homeless people, people with mental health problems, people with drug and alcohol problems, older people, offenders and refugees/asylum seekers. She has extensive experience of working with the SP Programme and currently works for Wakefield MDC assisting them to progress with the National Personalisation agenda for Adult Social Care Services.
