About the course

This course covers regulatory and practical aspects of Adult Safeguarding for people who have contact with vulnerable adults.

 

Course content:

  • Definitions of abuse; Who is at risk? Who is the abuser? Whose responsibility is it to safeguard?
  • What also comes under the umbrella of abuse (eg grooming, forced marriage, domestic violence, honour based killings, child abduction)
  • What may alert you? (eg missed/cancelled visits; property inspections; sleeping arrangements; body language etc)
  • Recording Information
  • Information Sharing
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Multi – Agency Working and Support Networks

 

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand their role and responsibility with regard to safeguarding
  • Know some of the signs and symptoms of underlying risk
  • Know who can help when a possible situation is identified
  • Know what questions to ask back in the workplace

 

About the Trainer

Jan Jordaine was a manager for 13 years with GIPSIL, supporting young people aged between 16 – 25 yrs old. Within that role she facilitated Safeguarding training to all staff, including Child / Adult Protection and Domestic Violence Awareness Training.  She has worked closely with the local Domestic Violence Unit and Social Care and represented GIPSIL at the East Leeds MARAC. For the past 5 years she has successfully run a support group for women of all ages who have or are currently experiencing a domestic violence relationship, either as an adult or a child.
