About the course
This course will focus on the value of assertiveness skills in the work situation. However, it will be acknowledged that the skills are transferable to all aspects of our lives. Participants will have the opportunity to look at how they behave in a range of situations and at what stops them being more assertive. The will have the opportunity to practice some techniques of assertiveness during the course.
Course Content
- Defining assertiveness
- Distinguishing between assertive, aggressive and non-assertive behaviour
- Our rights
- Techniques of assertiveness, including “broken record”, saying no and asking for time
- What stops us being assertive?
- Body language
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course participants will:
- Clarify their understanding of assertive, aggressive and non-assertive behaviour
- Raise their awareness of the importance of non-verbal behaviour in aiding assertiveness
- Practice some of the techniques
- Take responsibility for their own learning and support each other in setting goals

Judy has 15 years experience working as a trainer and consultant with the voluntary and community sector. Formerly working in adult education and welfare rights, she has a wealth of experience in support and guidance, combined with a knowledge of personal development training and management coaching. She developed the "Holistic Manager" workshops for VA-L encouraging black and ethnic minority workers to get a "taster" of different aspects of management. |
