About the course
The course will provide the opportunity to explore the principles of working with tenants that have drug-related difficulties and the problems that may arise from this.
Note: A basic working knowledge of different drugs and their effect is assumed, and will not be part of the course
Course Content
- Drug use as habitual behaviour
- We are not just dealing with drugs (i.e. Routines, Patterns, Friends etc.)
- What are you actually trying to do with (and for) drug users? - group exercise
- Key-working and drug use
- The wider context of drug use
- Case Studies
- Drug related death with service users
- Walking the tightrope - supporting without condoning
- Evaluation
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course participants will:
- have an understanding of habitual behaviour
- have an understanding of factors other than drug use
- have a better concept of support strategies
- have knowledge of suitable Keyworking techniques
- have an awareness of the effects of death on the project
- have a wider understanding of the issues surrounding work with drug users

David has over 14 years experience in supported and special needs housing, formerly as Area Manager for a Housing Trust which specialises in the accommodation and resettlement of ex-offenders, including problem and dependent drug users. |
