About the course

Organisations may feel that they have no need for this course as their client group does not include children. However many clients may have young children who may visit them at the project. If so what are the safety aspects for the child from any of the clients on the project and what safeguards are in place? The purpose of this course is to study the issue of Child Protection for the Supported Housing Sector. It will raise awareness, look at the legal implications for projects of the presence of children on their premises and give practical guidance on possible responses. It will cover the fundamentals of writing child protection policies.

  • The1989 Children Act and the policies of the Area Child Protection Committee
  • The Working Together document (1999)
  • Professional responses to Abuse

  • Why organisations need child protection policies
  • Feedback and evaluation


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course participants will:

  • Increased confidence in recognising Abuse
  • An understanding of actions that can be taken and those that must be taken in the context of referral
  • An understanding of the responsibility of the professional in the support of the child
  • An understanding of the Children Act and local policies on Abuse
  • Confidence in accessing resources for professionals when dealing with Abuse
  • Confidence of the need for and ability to implement a Child Protection policy in their workplace
