About the Course

This course is of use to anyone involved in working with, or housing, those who may be at risk of abuse. It will be of particular use to those who are involved in some way in housing this specific service user category. It includes issues that will be of relevance to managers, full and part-time staff and volunteers.

Course Content

  • Establishing parameters - A review of the kinds of abuse that
    someone may fall victim to
  • Will we know / how will we know if someone is being abused ?
  • What can staff realistically do about it (i.e if they believe that someone is at risk (or actually being abused ) ?
  • How well networked is the organisation ? Who else do we
    take it to ?
  • Causes and triggers
  • 3 case studies
  • Some good practice points
  • Evaluation

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the participants will have:

  • a better understanding of abuse detection
  • a better understanding of procedural issues
  • clarity on some of the more common concerns
  • understanding of what an organisation can (and should) do
  • knowledge of how to protect themselves and the organisation

About the Trainer:

David has over 14 years experience in supported and special needs housing, formerly as Area Manager for a Housing Trust which specialises in the accommodation and resettlement of ex-offenders, including problem and dependent drug users.
