Course Description:

About the course

This course is aimed at anyone who wishes to take on the role of workplace mentor, (usually an experienced worker providing guidance to less experienced workers). The course will look at how useful the mentoring role can be and how it complements other forms of staff support in developing individuals at work. Training methods will include self assessment, group work and question and answer sessions. The day will be very practically based and participants should leave with greater confidence in their ability to be an effective mentor.

  • Key skills required for effective mentoring
  • How to structure a mentoring session
  • Giving and receiving feedback effectively
  • The benefits of providing a workplace mentoring scheme

  • have knowledge about what it takes to be an effective mentor
  • express confidence in their ability to be provide a mentoring service
  • have understanding of why mentoring might not be working and what can be done about it
  • appreciate the workplace structures needed to enable effective mentoring
  • have a full understanding of the benefits of mentoring

About the Trainer:

Elizabeth works as an independent trainer and advisor, offering a range of courses based on her 23 years of experience of working for both social services and the independent sector. She has been responsible for the development of new services and monitoring of contracts in the independent sector.
