About the course

This course focuses on what makes supervision effective and how it is one the most powerful tools available to a manager/team leader. Both established mangers and those who are new to management would benefit from this course which includes an understanding of how supervision can help them build relationships with their staff, enhance performance of individuals and teams and how to deal with and address issues of conflict often before they develop

Course outline:

  • Understanding the process and purpose of supervision
  • Understanding the difference between supervision and appraisals
  • Being aware of the difference between effective and ineffective supervision
  • Analysis of the dynamics which impact on supervision including the expectation of and from supervision
  • Understanding professional boundaries and accountability relating to supervision
  • An awareness and understanding of managing conflicting priorities in supervision.
  • Evaluation

Learning Outcomes:

Course participants will learn:

  • to define and understand the role of supervision in their organisation
  • to have an understanding of the skills/awareness required to ensure supervision is effective
  • how to identify and work with power and equality in supervision.
  • to recognise which when to support and when to supervise.
  • To understand accountability and responsibility to staff, service and service users including recording supervision sessions, confidentiality and evidence.
