About the course

 

Current government proposals for Best value in Housing and tenant participation aim to radically change the way in which Social Housing is managed and maintained. Though proposals will impact initially on Councils and Housing Associations agencies offering housing with care and support will inevitably be affected.

This one day course will be an opportunity to consider how participation could work for you and your project in whatever context - hostel (large or small), group home, supported lodging scheme, single tenancy etc.

Course content

  • definitions of participation, why promote participation, pros and cons
  • developing participation, where to start, motivating, improving, sustaining
  • participation in practice: models, good practice, methods of delivery
  • making it work for you: assessing and responding to different needs, working with different groups
  • evaluation

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course participants will:

  • have an understanding of tenant participation
  • know some models of good practice
  • realise the benefits of tenant participation
  • have some understanding of the best ways to involve themselves and residents
  • know how to develop, or begin to develop, resident participation in ways most appropriate to the workplace situation
  • The course will be highly participative

    About the Trainer:

    David has over 14 years experience in supported and special needs housing, formerly as Area Manager for a Housing Trust which specialises in the accommodation and resettlement of ex-offenders, including problem and dependent drug users.
